When it comes to his patients, Pieter believes in carrying out an in-depth examination and using the best technology, such as cone-beam CT scanning to make an accurate diagnosis. His treatments involve using the very latest advances in periodontics, and minimally invasive techniques and microscopic surgery.
Pieter is registered as a specialist in periodontology with the General Dental Council* (reg no: 66675).
Qualifications
Pieter qualified as a dentist from the University of Pretoria in 1991 with First Class Honours and several awards. He then spent four and a half years in general dental practice in the UK, before returning to South Africa in 1996 to further his education.
After four years of full-time study at the University of Pretoria, he was awarded the M.Ch.D. degree in Periodontics and Oral Medicine (cum laude). During his studies, he gained expert knowledge in all aspects of Periodontology and dental implantology.
He was one of the first Periodontists in the world to receive formal university-based training in dental implantology.
Pieter has a vast amount of experience and knowledge and has been working in specialist periodontal and dental implant care since 2000. His 24 years of experience has seen him place more than four thousand dental implants, hundreds of bone and gum grafts, and he was one of the first Periodontists in the UK to provide ‘teeth in a day’.
In his years of treating thousands of periodontal and dental implant patients, he has become an expert in the analysis of CT scans. He’s been using CT scans for dental implant treatment planning since 1997 and has used the practice scanner in his dental treatments for the past seven years.
Pieter likes to keep abreast of the latest information in his field and has attended dozens of courses and conferences in Denmark, France, Italy, South Africa, Spain, the UK and the USA.
